Get a taxi or booked ride—and find the driver

Check the Chinese destination, pickup area and licence plate.

Quick answer

At an airport or station, an official taxi queue is a useful fallback if an app cannot book your ride. For an app booking, confirm the pickup area and Chinese destination, then match the car’s licence plate before getting in.

Before you request a ride

  1. Copy the destination’s full Chinese address and branch name. Check it with the hotel or venue.
  2. Set the pickup pin at an entrance where cars can stop. Airports and stations may direct booked cars to a separate area from the taxi queue.
  3. In a ride-hailing app such as DiDi, check the vehicle option, estimated price and payment method before confirming. An estimate can change with route, waiting or tolls.

Meet the right car

Match the licence plate and vehicle details against the booking. Do not get in just because a driver calls your name.

Send the entrance or zone name in the app message. If you cannot find it, show the booking to airport or station staff.

Check the destination again before setting off. Keep the booking or taxi receipt until the journey is settled.

If booking or payment fails

Follow signs to the official taxi queue. Show the driver your Chinese destination and ask about payment before leaving.

If you leave an item behind, use the booked trip’s help route or call the contact on your taxi receipt. Give the date, time, route and plate number; a receipt is more useful than “a taxi from the airport”.

Useful Chinese
