Can hotels in Guangzhou accept foreign passports?
The rule—and the short message that helps prevent a wasted journey.
Quick answer
Hotels should not reject you by claiming they lack a special foreign-guest qualification. But a booking confirmation does not prove the front desk can register your passport. Ask the actual property to confirm that in writing before the free-cancellation deadline.
Ask the hotel two questions
- Can you check me in with a foreign passport and complete accommodation registration?
- Will the front desk be staffed at my arrival time? Add the date and approximate time.
- Send this through the booking’s hotel chat or the property’s verified contact. Save the written reply.
Why a listing is not enough
The national policy removes qualification barriers, but front-desk problems still happen. ABC reported a traveller being refused at a Guangzhou property after booking, and found mismatches between listings.
This is a reason to confirm your own booking, not a reason to assume a certain hotel chain or star rating guarantees acceptance.
If they will not give a clear answer
Ask the duty manager to confirm the passport-registration process. If the answer remains unclear, contact the booking platform before the cancellation deadline and ask for a property that has confirmed it can check you in.
