12306 will not verify your passport

Check the entry before retrying

1. Select foreign passport, not a Chinese ID or Foreign Permanent Resident ID.
2. Check every character of the number and follow the current name-field instructions. Do not invent a Chinese name or swap name order to make the form pass.
3. Save the error or verification status. If the app offers document review, upload only through that official route.

Get help in person

Look for the station’s ticket office / 售票处, not a platform boarding gate. Tell staff you need 12306 identity verification / 身份核验. Bring your original passport and account details.

For a duplicate-document warning, show the error rather than opening several accounts. The official FAQ directs you to app handling or a counter with the original document.

If you need to travel today

Ask the same counter whether it can sell a ticket for your intended train. Have the destination, date and acceptable alternatives ready. Verification does not reserve a seat.

Call 12306 or Guangzhou’s 020-12306 line if you need the official next step. Allow time for the counter, security and boarding afterwards.
